Formula basis

Boys: midpoint = (father's height + mother's height + 13) / 2, range = midpoint ± 9 cm. Girls: midpoint = (father's height + mother's height - 13) / 2, range = midpoint ± 8 cm.

Calculation method

Estimates a child's genetically expected target height range from both parents' heights using the Ogata formula developed for Japanese children.

Exclusions and checks required

  • The Ogata formula was derived from Japanese pediatric data (1990, revisited 2007) and is a statistical estimate, not a guarantee of a child's eventual adult height.
  • Non-genetic factors such as nutrition and lifestyle during growth are not accounted for.
