Formula basis
eGFR (mL/min/1.73m2) = 194 x serum creatinine (mg/dL) to the power of -1.094 x age (years) to the power of -0.287. For females, multiply the result by 0.739. The resulting eGFR value is classified into six stages: G1 (90 or above), G2 (60-89), G3a (45-59), G3b (30-44), G4 (15-29), and G5 (below 15).

Estimates eGFR (estimated glomerular filtration rate) from serum creatinine, age, and sex using the equation developed for Japanese adults, and shows the corresponding CKD GFR stage (G1-G5).
Exclusions and checks required
This equation applies only to adults aged 18 and over; this calculator does not accept ages under 18. A different equation is required for children.
It assumes an enzymatically measured serum creatinine value (reported to two decimal places); results vary with measurement method, muscle mass, and recent food intake.
A full CKD assessment requires the GFR stage plus proteinuria/albuminuria staging, the underlying cause, and confirmation that the finding persists for 3 months or more. A single estimate does not by itself establish kidney function status.
