Formula basis

When calculating from the dispensing date plus the medication period: next scheduled date = dispensing date + medication period (in days). When the next date is specified directly: the entered date is used as-is. Approximate dispensing window = 7 days before to 7 days after the next scheduled date.

Calculation method

For the second and subsequent dispensing under a refill prescription, calculates the next scheduled dispensing date from the previous dispensing date and the medication period, and shows the 7 days before and after that date as the approximate dispensing window.

Exclusions and checks required

  • This calculation reflects the general principle under the refill prescription system; the actual medication period and dispensing window are ultimately determined by the physician's medical judgment and what is written on the prescription.
  • This calculator does not account for cases where refill prescriptions cannot be used, such as the maximum of 3 total uses per prescription, or medications and patches subject to dosage limits.
  • The interpretation and operational handling of the "7 days before and after" window may vary between pharmacies and prescribing institutions.

Example input::Dispensing date January 1, 2026, with a 14-day medication period

The next scheduled date of January 15, 2026, with a window of January 8-22, is a reference only; the actual visit schedule should follow what is written on the prescription and be confirmed with the pharmacy.
