Formula basis

rawDiscountYen=faceValueYen×(annualRatePercent/100)×days/365. discountYen rounds rawDiscountYen to the roundingUnit (1, 10, or 100) using roundingMode (floor, halfUp, or ceil), and netProceedsYen=max(0, faceValueYen−discountYen−otherFeeYen). When days>0 and net proceeds are greater than 0, effectiveAnnualRatePercent=((discountYen+otherFeeYen)/netProceedsYen×100)×365/days; otherwise, it is 0.

Calculation method

Using the bill's face value, annual rate, discount days, other fees, and rounding settings, this calculator applies simple interest on a 365-day basis to calculate the discount charge, total cost, net proceeds, and effective annual rate based on net proceeds.

Exclusions and checks required

  • Days are always calculated on a 365-day basis; the calculator does not determine a financial institution's rules for including the discount date or maturity date, leap years, bank holidays, or collection days.
  • annualRatePercent and otherFeeYen are entered values; the calculator does not automatically obtain actual contract terms such as credit risk, recourse, guarantee fees, stamp duty, consumption tax, or collection fees.
  • If the discount charge and fees equal or exceed the face value, net proceeds are limited to ¥0, so the result does not represent excess costs or whether a contract is available.

Example input::Discounting ¥1,000,000 for 90 days at 3% annually and rounding down to the nearest ¥100

Round down

The discount charge is ¥7,300, total cost is ¥9,300, net proceeds are ¥990,700, and the effective annual rate is approximately 3.80%, but these figures do not represent a financial institution's quote or contract terms.
