Formula basis
BMI for each entry = weight (kg) / height (m)^2, shown to one decimal place. Ideal weight (kg) = height (m)^2 x 22. Classification: BMI < 18.5 underweight, 18.5 to <25 normal range, 25 to <30 obesity class 1, 30 to <35 obesity class 2, 35 to <40 obesity class 3, 40 and above obesity class 4.
Calculation method
Lists BMI and obesity classification for each of several recorded weight measurements, given a height, so weight trends over time can be reviewed.
Exclusions and checks required
Temporary weight fluctuations from measurement conditions, such as meals, hydration, or time of day, are not accounted for.
BMI cannot distinguish body fat from muscle mass, so muscular individuals may have their obesity level overestimated.
This formula does not apply to children or adolescents who are still growing.
Example input::Height 170 cm with weight readings of 65, 64.5, 64, 63.8, 63.5 kg
height
170
weights
65,64.5,64,63.8,63.5
The most recent (5th) reading gives a BMI of about 22.0, in the normal range. Day-to-day weight changes reflect measurement conditions, so treat this as a trend rather than a single definitive number.
