Uses sex and age band (six bands from 20-29 to 70+) as keys into a reference table, then computes the difference from the entered systolic blood pressure.
Calculation method
Looks up the national reference average systolic blood pressure for the selected age band and sex, and compares it with the user's own entered systolic value.
Exclusions and checks required
The National Health and Nutrition Survey is an annual sample survey; average blood pressure in Japan has been trending downward in recent years.
The reference average includes people taking antihypertensive medication and does not separate by medication status.
